Memorial Middle School

1 2 3

The original renovation program for Memorial Middle School called for converting a number of existing classrooms into Science Labs. However, multiple options developed for review were deemed unsuccessful as they created a net loss of general classrooms. For example, at least one-and-a-half existing classrooms had to be converted to achieve TEA-standard square footages for each Science Lab. Moreover, additional converted space was required for Science Lab Preparation Rooms. As the design phases progressed, House + Partners (Ambrose and House, Architects) developed 3-D computer models in order to provide the client with dynamic, easily-understood studies of planned spaces and to facilitate effective end-user feedback. Even though the final design included 12 General Classrooms and 4 TEA standard Science Labs with Prep Rooms, the construction cost came in well below the original budget.
